College Choice: Indiana University Northwest
Major: Journalism/ Communications Newspaper Memories: Going to see the march-around-on Fridays, Helping people revise their stories, Mrs. Skertic giving her share on U.S politics, Josh saying anything, Michelle going on weird rants, and Malachi's lame but very humorous jokes. What I’ll miss about high school: Playing football with my brothers. Any last words: When I first came to Merrillville, I was very scared and unsure about how the school would turn out to be. I had just encountered the worst year of my life and had to find a new way, new friends, and a new support group to help me get through these tough times. After a month of living in Merrillville, I contacted the athletic office and asked them if I could join the football team. It still to this day is probably the best decision I ever made in my life. I could have walked away for the sport I loved then, but I didn't. I joined the team and formed bonds with people that I most likely would not have seen if I didn't call that day. And from there, my nerves of trying something new slowly started to decrease. From then I have participated in Newspaper, Yearbook, Wrestling, Football, and PNN. And in each program or sport, I was blessed to have wonderful teachers and coaches, along with students and teammates, to support me along the way. And there were many times I wanted to just give up, but my support group would not let me. I had to keep pushing to become a better student or a better athlete because if I stopped, it would take longer to catch back up again. My support group turned me into the man I am today, and I will forever be grateful for that. To conclude, I leave with this, Merrillville High School taught me how to be tough, serious and focus throughout the school year, but you can also have fun as well. I can't count the many laughs my peers and I have shared throughout the past three years. All the pep rallies, football games, practices, homecomings, wrestling meets, cafeteria bake sessions, hallway disruptions, and fiestas make me think back on how blessed I was to be a Pirate.
